How to choose a god
After you decided to believe in a god, the most common task is to choose a god. You have 2 common choices. You can choose one of ready made gods already available in some religions, or you may want to create your own.
If you have no idea about what kind of god that you want in your life, then an instant, ready made god may be appropriate for you. Some religions have setup a perfect god of their own. They are not all the same, but they do share some common properties that a god may usually require. Omnipotence and benevolence are the most common ones. You must be careful, however, each one these gods in those religions do not share a common history. Neither do they have the same law. In addition, you may be required to fulfill many rituals that you may feel strange, out of date, or even nonsense, and some of them may even cost you some money. Remember that most of these religions are several hundreds, or even thousands, years-old. You may have to adapt yourself with their way of thinking and seeing things.
Creating your own god is another alternative. This is not going to be an easy task as you may have to construct everything from scratch. Some philosophers may have some basic ideas about the kind of god that suit to your need. You may begin it by exploring some encyclopedia; Wikipedia may provide you with some ideas to consider.
If you still have no idea, then you may want to take a ready made god as a starter. You may take any kind of god, it wouldn’t matter for a start, as this would only serve as a basic model. After that you can adjust its properties until you find the best model to satisfy your need. This is not going to be easy as it can take days, weeks, months, or even years until you reach the final model. Just take it easy. Life is still going on without your god.
